A lot of Pua's have a lot of assumptions about lap dances. Let me lay down what you really need to know.

1) You shouldn't buy one because a real pua doesn't need to spend money to game. Bullshit. Lap dances represent 70-80 percent of a strippers income. You can politely refuse or offer something else of value. DO NOT go in to a club and refuse to tip on stage or buy dances. This frame will get you killed in a club.
2) You can do without one. People have different tastes. You don't have to like every girl in the place. Also, if you go often enough(like me), there will be no obvious point in a dance as you will not be aroused(the typical goal). However, there is a tactful way to refuse. I personally tip the girl and say "No thanks. Maybe later."
3) You can use dances to help your game. Acting disintested shows that her naked beauty does not phase you. I always look at other girls when I get a dance. This makes her try harder and promotes competition.
4) You can use the dance to physically escalate. In some clubs, the dances occur in private to semi-private areas. You can escalate slightly in this type of enviroment. I recommend that you find out for certain if she likes you. I also recommend that you wait for her to start escalation on you(taking your hands and placing them on her). This way you will know for sure and know exactly how far she has in mind(by placement ie back, thigh, hips, breast, and crotch).
5) Take the opportunity to discuss what you want. Make it congenial, most chumps don't say a word. They are so pussystruck, that they forget to run game. The more you talk the faster you will come out of customer mode. It also take a load off her as she doesn't have to run game on you " I want your dick in my ass." etc.
6) Get really good at reading body language. This one fact alone will help you isolate(not physically) targets that are intrested in you. Dancers are real good at using body language to game. I've seen my regular pick up improve, because I can read the dance floor.
7) Use eye contact. Basically, its like a beam. The more you can look her in the eye and less in the nipple the more intresting you seem.
8) The most important rule, DO NOT GET A BONER. Most of girls get validation from turning men on. If you get one, she will move on as you are just another guy with an erection. I have literally had to sit there and think about old grannies doing goats to make myself stop(usaully occurs during your inital period of going). Make her work for it. It is okay, if after months of going(back) and her pulling out all the stops for you to get one. Okay, that was a little over the top, but you get the point. After she qualifies herself, and a great deal of compliance its okay for her to get this one victory.

By placement, do you mean where she puts your hands?

When you say discuss what you want, what do you mean? Have you dispensed with the chit chat and other stuff already and are going direct?

What do you mean by isolate non physically? Like a mini-moment or the 'island' sort of thing?
Also, where/how are they giving off the signals - when they're sitting and talking to you, when they're sitting in your group and you may be talking to some other people, or when they're on stage or elsewhere dancing?

By placement, I mean where she puts your hands. This is a IOI with the DEL. She'll put your hands on her at the spot she is most comfortable. IF she likes you you'll get a IOI/ escalation around the crotch or breast .

On verbal game.. if you like the girl go direct. However, if its a girl that you got a dance from but don't like make it easy on her. Talk about the weather, current events, whatever. At that point, you are and will remain a customer(your choice) thus be a helpful customer. Its kinda like bagging your own groceries at check out. This will help with your overall image and value at the club.

Isolation, perhaps it was bad word choice. I meant eliminate all the girls off of that list(girls that like you and ones that don't).

Body language- Strippers use non-verbal direct and highly sexual game. You need to understand that regular IOIs are not real IOIs in a strip club.
Every movement she makes is designed to give off the impression that she likes you and is ready to go. Your job is to interpet what she says and does into your playbook. A dead give away is just watching her work the room. How does she interact with short guys, tall guys, dark guys, light guys, chumps, rich guys, old guys and younger guys. Are there differences in approach, kino, verbal? Since most girls are different you have to watch.
Again its sounds like a lot of work, but it will save you a ton of time and honestly how long does it take to glance over?
Obvoiusly, if you get huge amounts of proximity alerts and girls sitting at your table your game is on.

Eye contact- You can use it to commuincate highly sexal intent. I don't recommend it, until you know which girl likes you. Also, be wary of this as it may cause drama that is not under your control. Actually, its main purpose is to make you stand out. Most guys are looking at a girls body. If you actually lock and maintain eye contact you will automatically sub-commuincate all the right things.
