Hello everyone! I am calling myself the “pickup professor” because I am beginning to learn the “PUA arts” and I am a college professor. Perhaps one day I will be so good at pick-up that my screen name will mean that I am really good at it? I hope so! But for now, I am definitely a novice and starting to learn.

Picking-up women has always been a challenge for me. Like many men, approaching a woman evokes so much anxiety. Knowing what to say to a woman after the initial contact seems almost impossible. When I do establish a connection, I immediately become the "nice guy" and the "advisor" for women. I truly enjoy helping and inspiring people; that’s one of the reasons why I became a college professor. Unfortunately, I believe this attitude has rendered my dating career much more difficult (correct me if I am wrong). I have many other sticking points that I am only now beginning to realize. This recent discovery about myself made me realize that my game is in need of a MAJOR overhaul. Rather than asking all the wrong people for dating advice (most of my friends are married), I decided to take a different approach. I began searching the Internet for literature on dating and I found an interesting genre: the PUA literature. I began reading.

I realized that I need assistance. Reading the plethora of PUA literature and web sites over the past two months seemed like a good start. Most of what I have read covers dating concepts and PUA concepts. The reading and has been somewhat helpful, but the knowledge I gained was very difficult to convert into practical use. For example, some PUA instructors rely on gimmicks such as “peacocking” to assist in initiating the pick-up process. Others rely on well-rehearsed, structured routines to execute a successful pick-up. I admit these strategies may work for some people, but I did not feel that having a flashy necklace or memorizing someone else's routine (even after some adaptations) would help me in the dating scene – these approaches do not fit my personality. I am much more genuine. I would rather attract a woman based on my own personality. Memorizing someone else's routines implies that my own personality is insufficient for becoming a successful PUA. Is there a PUA instructor out there that can help me extend my own personality and strengths to improve my game?

There’s an old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” While surfing the Interent, I found Vin Dicarlo’s web site. The DRILLS-based approach seems like a very good strategy to teaching the PUA arts. I decided to learn more about Vin’s style to teaching by first purchasing “Dating Diablo.” After listening to this CD twice, I decided to put some of Vin’s teachings to the test. Although my attempts in the field using subtle sexual cues, kino, and establishing “warm dominance” was awkward and timed improperly, I did notice that my game was already improving. I just need guidance, feedback, and practice – and I still have a lot of learning to do. Two days later, I registered for DiClassified Drills in New York in January 2008.

Vin and Brian...I sincerely hope you enjoy a challenge. I know I do! I have been unable to improve my game on my own despite all of my effort and additional knowledge gained from reading various PUA literature (except for Dating Diablo). With your help, I am truly looking forward to turning my personal life 180 degrees, and sharing my progress with the members of this forum.

Just read your intro and it seems that we share many of the same SPs and insights. I will also be attending the bootcamp in Jan.

I live near NYC and frequently visit Manhattan on weekends. Learning with and from you will be my pleasure!

If there are any other PUAs in the NY area, please let me know. After the bootcamp, I would enjoy hooking-up with you guys if you would be willing to accept someone who is just starting out.

Cool. I met 2 guys who took drills and plan on doing some pre-bootcamp training with them. After we do camp, we can all probably start getting together to practice.

Another aspect of drills that I like is that it is not selling itself as some magic bullet, rather a system that take work and practice. To me, that sounds more likely to work than some kind of quick fix.

Needless to say, my top priority after drills is to practice practice practice until this behavior is second nature and automatic.

I intend to practice as well, especially if we can all hook-up and work as a team! I already plan on being in Manhattan every weekend.

One challenge I face is that if I go full-close with a woman, I cannot exactly drive them back to my place in Connecticut. The drive is not that long, but too long for a pickup. I am going to have to get the girl to take me to her place. Most Manhattan girls I meet live in Manhattan or in one of the boroughs.

Do you have any places in mind where we will start?
